The Seahawks | 1st Grade
What name do you go by at Bridges?: Mr. McMahon
Tell us a little about yourself.: I have lived worked at Bridges for four years, two years in Kindergarten and two years in first grade. This is my fifth year teaching in Washington DC. Prior to living here, I have lived in Charlotte, NC, Tulsa, OK, San Antonio, TX, and Indianapolis, IN. I have worked with students as a cross country and track coach, earning Conference Coach of the Year in Cross Country, and coaching an Indoor State Track and Field Champion in the two mile. I have two sisters that live in DC, one that lives in New York City, and a brother that lives in Charlotte. I live to run (and not getting hit by cars) in Rock Creek Park.
Where did you go to school and what did you study?: I attended North Carolina State University and majored in History.
What do you like best about working in education?: The best thing that I like about working in education is the growth and confidence that I see in students throughout the school year. It's pretty awesome to see students becoming more confident in themselves in all aspects, and it's a pleasure to see them in this growth.
What is your favorite part of the school day?: My favorite part of the school day is when we have read aloud. It's pretty awesome to see twenty two students become transfixed on a book and imagine that they are part of the story. That they want to know what will happen next in the story, and then seeing them get that book and read it in their own voice over and over again.
What do you like best about Bridges, your classroom, or your teaching team?: I like coming to work and working with the different people in the school building. I enjoy that the people at Bridges made a very nice card for me after my accident, put a tape outline of me in the teacher's lounge, and provided me with plenty of well wishes through emails, texts, and phone calls. It really meant a lot. I also like the Seahawk team, because we are the best. Ms. Farmer is able to put up with me for three years now, Ms. Hemphill is a very outstanding co-teacher, and Ms. Brittany is able to make us all laugh.
What were you like when you were a kid?: Mr. McMahon was very quiet as a kid. He is quiet as an adult.
