The Penguins  |  Pre-Kindergarten

Katie Gaither

What name do you go by at Bridges?: Ms. Katie or Mama Penguin

Tell us a little about yourself.: Raised in Washington state, I am a HUGE Seahawks fan. I was recently married and we LOVE to travel everywhere and anywhere. I love the outdoors, painting, crafting, Jeopardy and music. My favorite children's book is: The Lorax and I love laughing and learning with kids.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?: Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA
BA in English with an endorsement to teach ESL

What do you like best about working in education?: THE KIDS! I love coming up with creative and fun ways to assist in their learning and I live for those "lightbulb" moments.

What is your favorite part of the school day?: My favorite part of the school day is Science Friday.

What do you like best about Bridges, your classroom, or your teaching team?: Ms. Sharnita is an awesome Mama Penguin to all of our kids. I love that our styles of teaching are similar and we can laugh and have fun with the kids together. Our classroom is quirky, fun, exciting, investigative and kind. We try to instill independence and key lifeskills that are vital with problem solving in our classroom.

What were you like when you were a kid?: You couldn't get me to be quiet.. I was in trouble all of the time because I interrupted so much. I would always be in trouble for being off-task, getting others off-task and being too chatty. In fact, I have since written most of my teachers letters apologizing for my behavior when I was their student. Otherwise, I loved playing soccer, Girl Power (the Spice Girls were big back then) and art. I was a competitive swimmer until I was 19 and was entering art contests and shows starting at age 10.
