If We Build It, They Will Play
Give our students the gift of play
Donate on #GivingTuesday!
Please support our efforts to complete Phase II of the Pre-K, Elementary and Infant and Toddler playground at our new home in the Fort Totten neighborhood in Washington, DC.
On October 6, 2016, more than 200 volunteers built phase I of our playground. The amazing day was made possible by KABOOM and ACON Investments. Financial support also came from the Bridges PCS and Briya PCS parent community.
Below is the celebration photo of the volunteers who built Phase I of the new playground, with pictures of the spaces awaiting Phase II to be completed in August 2017.
How You Can Help!
Bridge PCS is working to finish the courtyard play space that will support the development of our students’ bodies and minds. Play supports the development of cooperation skills, problem solving skills, sharing, and team work.
On Giving Tuesday, we are kicking off a campaign to raise $50,000.00 for Phase II of the playground, which will be completed next summer. All donations, large and small, help us reach our goal. Make a contribution online through the Network for Good. Consider a donation of $25, $100, $500 or more to help us reach our goal. Any amount makes a difference.
We have received a very generous offer from a donor to start off the campaign with a dollar for dollar match for the first $5,000 raised. That means with your help raising $5,000, Bridges will receive an additional $5,000. Help us earn this $5,000 dollar matching donation.
Here are ways you can support the playground campaign:
- #GivingTuesday is on Tuesday, November 29, 2016! Make a tax-deductible donation. Make a contribution online through the Network for Good or by mail on November 29. (If you choose to mail your donation to Bridges PCS, please put c/o Development Office on the envelope.)
- Spread the word about donating to our playground campaign. Use #GivingTuesday to promote the project on social media.

Below is a link to a news story done by Telemundo, a local Spanish language TV station, showing our volunteers building Phase I of the playground in October. Even if you do not understand Spanish, I encourage you to click the link because there is great footage of the volunteers building the playground.
What is #GivingTuesday? It started with a simple idea: be a counterpoint to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Starting with a couple hundred nonprofits in 2012, it has grown to more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries coming together to celebrate #GivingTuesday. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, greater volunteer hours, and more activities that bring about real change in communities.
