Susan Haine joined the Bridges Family in 2014 after spending time working in fundraising and development for the National PTA. Susan has a B.A. in American Studies from Smith College, a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and a Certificate in Fundraising from New York University’s George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising. She enjoys being part of a learning community and appreciates the opportunity to see that her work make a difference—more and better classrooms, technology, supplies and teachers / other professionals.
When she's not at Bridges, Susan is at the beck and call of her very friendly and beautiful golden retriever Greta Garbo. In addition to dog walks, she spends her time at Nationals stadium, beaches and raising money (and judging films) for the Alexandria Film Festival. Her hobbies include knitting, sewing and baking an awesome apple pie.
Her family tree includes an uncle, aunt, cousins, brothers, sister, niece and two sons who have all taught at some point in their lives in places as diverse as Minnesota, Ohio, the District of Columbia, California, Saratoga Springs (NY), New York City and Japan.
Kevin McGowan - Early Childhood Curriculum Coordinator
Kevin McGowan joined the Bridges team in 2014. He has been working in education for over 20 years, ten of which he spent working as a Head Start teacher for the DCPS Head Start Program. Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from Howard University, his Master's degree in Integrated Studies from Cambridge College, and will be completing his Ph.D. in December 2014 in Early Childhood Education at George Mason University.
Kevin works towards building lessons that incorporate the lived experiences of his students into the curriculum. He enjoys working at Bridges because he believes that Bridges provides an inclusive educational environment that addresses the needs of the whole child.
As a freshman at Howard University, Kevin joined the sky diving club, where he made his one and only jump! These days, he enjoys less dangerous activities like traveling, reading, and working in his yard.

Kathryn Meador - Speech-Language Pathologist
Ms. Kathryn was born and raised in North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders at North Carolina State University and a Master of Science in Communication Sciences at East Carolina University. Before joining the Bridges team in August 2012, Ms. Kathryn provided early intervention speech therapy services in North Carolina, as well as services at an outpatient hospital clinic, school settings, and private practice in Washington, DC. Her specialized experience and trainings include: PROMPT training, development of language routines for the natural environment and classroom, parent training, sensory-motor feeding therapy, oral placement therapy, Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol for children with apraxia, language development, development of visual schedules and supports.
Ms. Kathryn loves the team collaboration at Bridges between service providers, teachers, and parents. She loves seeing the kids smiling faces each day. Ms. Kathryn loves Washington, DC and the opportunities it gives students for exploration.
On a bright sunny day, you can find Ms. Kathryn making the most of our beautiful city - running through Rock Creek Park, having a picnic on the mall, or hanging out on a rooftop.
Ms. Kristine believes all children deserve an excellent education every single day. She feels fortunate to be the principal of Bridges where she gets to wake up each morning and spend the day working hard to provide an outstanding education with endless opportunities and possibilities to 100% of the students at Bridges PCS.
Ms. Kristine comes to Bridges after working in education for seven years. She earned both a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science and a Master’s in the Arts of Teaching in Special Education from James Madison University. Ms. Kristine recently competed an endorsement in Educational Leadership from the New Leaders for New Schools program in Washington DC. Currently, she is finishing a degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Virginia.
Ms. Kristine loves the mission of Bridges Public Charter School – “to provide an exemplary educational program that includes all students.” Ms. Kristine believes every single child is capable of becoming a high achiever. “Bridges provides our students with structured learning opportunities that allow them to explore and create their own learning experiences, playing an active role in their learning.” Ms. Kristine is honored to be a part of a school that meets the needs of all learners.
When Ms. Kristine is not at Bridges, she loves spending time with her friends and family, reading a good book, discount shopping (her favorite stores are TJ Maxx and J. Crew Factory) and sleeping-in on the weekends.
Francine Sacchetti - Literacy Coach
Ms. Francine has been working in education for 20 years and this is her third year at Bridges. She's taught in Baltimore and New York City and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute and a Master of Science in Education from Bank Street College in New York City. Ms. Francine loves the thoughts and ideas of 3 and 4 year-olds, "Their enthusiasm for life and learning is wonderful to be around."
When Ms. Francine was young, she thought about becoming a filmmaker. Now, her son, 13, makes films and she enjoys helping him with his projects. When she's not teaching and making movies, Ms. Francine likes to paint, draw, run, read, and spend time with her family. She loves working in Washington, DC and believe this is a great city with great people!
Bridges Billy Goat, Mascot
Billy Goat has been in education for many years through stories ("The Three Billy Goats Gruff") and science. After a hard fought mascot campaign against the Builders and Dragons, Billy eagerly joined the Bridges PCS team in 2014! Billy loves school spirit and helping all friends be successful! The Bridges Billy Goat loves greeting friends in the morning and playing on the playground. The thing he loves most about Bridges PCS is the inclusive school environment.
Billy Goat won the Bridges mascot competition by earning the trust and love of the fun-loving students. Billy Goat is a great climber, dancer, and most of all loves all of his friends at Bridges PCS. Billy loves to give hugs, high-fives, handshakes, and star bursts! Billy is also allergic to peanuts, so make sure that you follow Bridges PCS peanut-free policies!
